My Dallas Criminal Lawyer » Dallas Domestic Violence Defense Lawyer
A domestic violence charge in Texas can dramatically impact every aspect of your life. What may have started as a heated argument or a simple misunderstanding can quickly escalate to serious accusations and severe consequences. You may be forced out of your home, restricted from seeing your children, and left facing criminal penalties that could follow you for years.
Design 8 knows a conviction for family violence in Texas doesn’t just mean jail time or fines—it means a permanent criminal record, the loss of your right to own a firearm, and potentially damaging effects on custody, employment, and housing. Even if the alleged victim doesn’t want to press charges, prosecutors may pursue the case anyway.
When the stakes are this high, you need a strong legal advocate who will listen to your side, question the evidence, and fight to protect your rights. The skilled, nonjudgemental legal team at Design 8 will build a strong defense to advocate for the best outcome possible.
If you’ve been accused of domestic violence in Dallas or the surrounding areas, don’t wait to get a helping hand. Call 214-764-5535 now to get the help you need.
While you might be tempted to represent yourself or rely on a public defender, especially if this is your first offense, it’s not a good idea. Public defenders carry heavy caseloads and can’t devote the same kind of time to your case that a skilled criminal defense attorney from Design 8 can.

Design 8 believes a domestic violence accusation doesn’t tell the whole story. We also know that the consequences of a conviction—ranging from incarceration to damage to your reputation and relationships—can change your life forever. That’s why we take every case seriously, whether it’s a first-time misdemeanor charge or a serious felony.
When you hire Design 8, you’re getting a team that’s focused on protecting your rights. Our firm is:
Focused on results: We’re not here to judge—we’re here to defend you. Our goal is to minimize the consequences you face and, whenever possible, get charges dismissed altogether.

Responsive and accessible: You’ll always know what’s going on with your case. We make it a point to return your calls promptly and keep you informed every step of the way.

Whether this is your first encounter with the criminal justice system or you’ve been through it before, we’re here to fight for your freedom and future.
This misdemeanor charge involves intentionally or knowingly causing physical contact with another that the person knows or should reasonably believe the victim will find provocative or offensive. In a domestic context, this could be something as seemingly minor as poking, pushing, or grabbing a partner during an argument. While this is punished by up to $500 in fines and no jail time, a family violence finding can have lasting consequences, including firearm restrictions and enhanced penalties for future charges. We work to get the charges dismissed without a conviction.
This charge is filed when someone intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to a family member, household member, or dating partner. “Bodily injury” can include any physical pain, illness, or impairment—bruises, scratches, or soreness may be enough. This Class A misdemeanor can be punished by up to one year in jail, community service, and $4,000 in fines. Plus, you’ll attend mandatory counseling.
Allegations that someone impeded another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation—commonly called strangulation or choking—is a third-degree felony. These cases often rely heavily on the alleged victim’s statement and physical evidence (such as redness or bruising on the neck). If convicted, you could spend two to 10 years in prison and pay up to $10,000 in fines. Our team challenges the evidence and seeks independent medical review when necessary.
This charge applies when someone is accused of committing two or more acts of family violence within a 12-month period—regardless of whether the incidents led to arrest or prosecution. Even if you were originally charged with a misdemeanor, a continuous violence against the family charge is a third-degree felony that carries up to 10 years of prison time. This statute allows the State to introduce prior allegations as evidence—not just convictions. We aggressively fight to keep unsupported claims out of court.
If you’ve been released on bond or are under a protective order, violating its terms—by contacting the protected party or being in a prohibited location—can result in a separate criminal charge. This is typically a Class A misdemeanor but can be elevated to a state jail felony if you have prior violations or used a deadly weapon. Violations may result in re-arrest and additional charges. Our team investigates whether the violation actually happened and pushes back against overly broad protective orders.
Repeated violations within a year, whether of a protective order or bond condition, can result in a third-degree felony charge—even if no new violence occurred. Multiple charges can be stacked or prosecuted together. We challenge the underlying order and seek case consolidation or dismissal where appropriate.
Assaulting someone known to be pregnant automatically enhances the charge to a third-degree felony—even if the injury is minor. These cases often hinge on whether the accused knew the person was pregnant and the extent of the alleged harm. We explore every possible defense, including lack of knowledge and insufficient evidence of injury.
If you’ve been charged with domestic violence-related offenses, you likely have plenty of questions. Here are answers to some of the most frequent questions we receive:
Yes. In Texas, prosecutors can pursue charges regardless of the alleged victim’s wishes. Having a skilled domestic violence defense attorney on your side can help reduce or dismiss the charges.
You can still be arrested. Report any accidental contact and have an attorney from My Dallas Criminal Lawyer respond quickly.
Very likely, yes. Judges consider family violence when making custody decisions. A conviction can weigh heavily against you.
Yes, in limited situations. Dismissals or acquittals may be eligible, but convictions typically are not.
False accusations do happen, especially in emotionally charged fights or breakups. We investigate motivations and inconsistencies to build a strong, strategic defense.
